Beyond his work running real estate developments and business operations, Spencer has been notably active in contributing to public life in Champaign-Urbana. Under his leadership, The Atkins Group donated over 300 acres of property, including the Stone Creek Golf Club, to the University of Illinois. The course was renamed The Atkins Golf Club to benefit both the university’s athletics programs and the wider community. He has been part of projects that generate residential, commercial, and recreational opportunities—helping support local tax revenues, boost public amenities, and increase access to green space.
