Established in 1980 by Clinton C. Atkins. The Atkins Group formerly known as TAG has been in the making for over 45 years, founded (created/launched) by Clinton C. Atkins and built with the steadfast support of his growing family and dedicated staff.
Today in 2025, Atkins Group operates with a hardworking and committed team. Atkins Group manages for several Atkins Family members and aspires to enhance as many lives as possible. Guided by its core values that Clint and Susie wholeheartedly believed in: Growth, Integrity, Support, and Excellence.

2024
The Residential Division continued development in Clearview Subdivision, completing eight additional homes and reinforcing The Atkins Group’s long-standing commitment to building sustainable communities.
2023
Expanded beyond Illinois with the construction of Park 136 Warehouse in Brownsburg, Indiana. The Residential Division built fifteen new homes in Stone Creek, marking continued regional growth.
2022
Built Cardinal Warehouse in Decatur — the largest in the company’s portfolio at 635,000 square feet — along with Quantum Warehouse in the Interstate East Subdivision. The Residential Division built six homes in Stone Creek Subdivision.
2021
The Atkins Group entered a new chapter while maintaining its experienced core team. They completed their 3rd building, Spectrum Warehouse, in the Interstate East Subdivision.
2020
A milestone year: TAG closed Stone Creek Golf Course and made landmark donations to the University of Illinois, including: Golf Course and facilities (190 acres, buildings, and equipment) to the Athletic Department. 72.85 undeveloped acres to the University of Illinois Foundation for parks and natural areas. 7.86 acres to the Gies College of Business. 104 residential lots to support the transition of these gifts’ development.
The Atkins Family planned and executed a family buyout of TAG. This allowed each family member, to focus on what they did the best.
2019
Completed Newton Warehouse in the Interstate East Subdivision. Built ten additional homes in Stone Creek and transitioned the residential strategy from build-and-sell to build-and-rent.
2018
Launched the Interstate East Warehouse Subdivision on North Market Drive in Champaign, beginning with Prism Warehouse. The Residential Division built eight homes in Stone Creek, while AG Farm Management reached 19,000 acres of owned and managed farmland.
2017
Commercial division builds another office at Pinehurst. The Residential starts building 8 homes at Clearview.
2015
2012
Susie (Clint’s wife), Todd, and Spencer Atkins guided a successful transition, evolving The Atkins Group into several family-led companies under the shared TAG identity.
2011
Founder Clint Atkins passed away, His legacy of entrepreneurship, integrity, and community growth will be forever missed.
2010
2008
Began development of Clearview, a major mixed-use community in northwest Champaign. Acquired two buildings in downtown Champaign.
2007
2006
Created Ashland Park Subdivision, built entirely by the in-house Residential Construction Division. Completed Titan Warehouse in the Apollo Subdivision. Built two offices at Pinehurst Office Park and purchased an additional office at 2901 Research Park Drive.
2005
Began development of Pinehurst Office Park in Champaign at Prospect Avenue and Olympian Drive. The Farm Division expanded to 15,000 acres of owned and managed farmland.
2004
Completed a second office building at Stone Creek Commons, strengthening the commercial presence in Urbana.
2003
Expanded the Commercial Division by developing Stone Creek Commons, an office park in Urbana, Illinois. The Atkins Group relocated its headquarters there. The Residential Division opened Sawgrass Subdivision, and the Farm Division reached 10,000 acres of farmland.
2002
Constructed Viking Warehouse in the Apollo Subdivision, reinforcing TAG’s growing industrial footprint.
2000
1999
Launched the Residential Division with the creation of Stone Creek Subdivision and Golf Course in Urbana. Formed AG Farm Management to oversee both Atkins-owned farmland and third-party agricultural management. Built Apollo Warehouse in the Apollo Subdivision.
1998
Established Apollo Industrial Subdivision with the construction streets and Mercury Warehouse, a cornerstone for future industrial growth.
1997
Transitioned leadership of the apartment portfolio to the second generation of the family — Todd and Spencer Atkins — continuing the company’s legacy as a family-led enterprise.
1995
Reached 1,000 acres of owned and managed farmland, marking the beginning of The Atkins Group’s agricultural operations.
1994
Developed Baytowne Shops, a retail center that launched the Commercial Division and expanded TAG’s presence in mixed-use development.
1993
Acquired South Land Warehouse, a 600,000-square-foot industrial facility that remains known as Atkins 150 Warehouse.
1992
Clint started developing North Prospect Ave. Bringing the first Sam’s and Wal-Mart to Champaign County as an anchor to this new shopping corridor.
1991
Developed Baytowne Apartments, a 192-unit resort-style community that set a new standard for apartment living in the Champaign-Urbana market.
1990
Clint closed his accounting and insurance firms to focus exclusively on real-estate and corporate endeavors. The Atkins Group moved into a newly built 30,000-square-foot warehouse on Kankakee Drive in north Champaign, launching the Industrial Division and setting the stage for major growth along North Prospect Avenue.
1983
Founder Clint Atkins had been acquiring and managing real estate across Central Illinois, including Chanute Homes, Westgate Apartments, and Gardner Lane Apartments. That year, he moved operations out of his home and established an office in Savoy, Illinois — home to Atkins/Blue Accounting and Illini Insurance.
